What is the BUS Grant?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government-backed grant scheme intended to support eligible low-carbon heating installations, including eligible heat pumps, in England and Wales.
Who is it for?
It is aimed at eligible property owners replacing fossil-fuel heating with eligible low-carbon heating. Eligibility depends on the property, technology, installer and current scheme rules.
Current grant summary
Eligible homeowners in England and Wales can currently access up to £7,500 towards eligible heat pump installations through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
21 July 2026 update
From 21 July 2026, certain eligible off-gas oil/LPG homes may qualify for up to £9,000 depending on technology and eligibility.
Installer-led process
The BUS process is normally led by the installer, who applies for the grant and confirms eligibility as part of the quotation and installation journey.
MCS requirement
Heat pump installations using the scheme normally require an MCS-certified installer and must follow the scheme rules in place at the time.
